Why am I seeing Cart Transform Errors in Shopify notifications?

Shopify sends a Cart Transform Error notification when the FoxSell Cart Transform cannot process a cart or checkout as expected. The cart transform is what turns a shopper's bundle selection into the correct bundle line items for checkout.

You may see the alert in Shopify as "A cart transform function failed":

Shopify may also show a warning on the active FoxSell Cart Transform checkout rule:

What can cause these notifications?

The most common potential reasons are:

  • An old cart contains a deleted product or variant. A shopper may return to a saved cart containing a bundle component that no longer exists in your Shopify store. The function then tries to bundle an item Shopify can no longer find.
  • A bundle item was replaced or recreated. Shopify gives a recreated product or variant a new ID, even when its title or other details look the same. An older cart may still refer to the previous ID.
  • The products available in a bundle were recently changed. A saved cart may contain a selection that is no longer part of the current bundle.
  • A current bundle still references an unavailable item. If a deleted or replaced component is still selected in the bundle setup, new carts can also be affected.
  • A temporary Shopify processing issue occurred. A short-lived Shopify or checkout issue can cause the function to fail even when the bundle setup is correct.

Shopify records each failed attempt, so the same old cart being retried can generate several notifications.

Does this mean every customer is affected?

Not necessarily. Shopify's warning can say that some customers abandoned checkout or could not submit orders, but the notification alone does not confirm that every checkout is failing.

If you can create a new cart with each current bundle and reach checkout successfully, the alerts may be coming from older saved carts. If a newly created cart also fails, the current bundle setup needs attention.

What should I check?

  1. Test each current bundle in a new cart and confirm that it reaches checkout.
  2. Check whether any bundle products or variants were recently deleted, replaced, duplicated, or recreated in Shopify.
  3. Confirm that every product and variant used by the bundle still exists and is available.
  4. If an item was replaced, open the affected bundle in FoxSell, select the current Shopify product or variant, and save the bundle.

When should I contact FoxSell Support?

Contact FoxSell Support if:

  • A newly created cart cannot reach checkout
  • Current bundle items or prices are incorrect at checkout
  • Notifications continue and no products or variants were recently changed
  • Shopify reports that customers were unable to submit orders

Please include a screenshot of the Shopify alert, the approximate time it occurred, and the affected bundle if known. This helps us check the relevant cart transform logs and identify the specific cause.
